Coleoptera, Everyone needs an Armour

My collection "Coleoptera, everyone needs an armour" is inspired by Coleoptera and insects that have natural armours to protect themselves.

I’ve always been fascinated by these wonderful creatures…those shapes, those colours and those armours!!

This is my first digital collection and it’s a celebration of these creatures who inspired the name of my brand: EElytra.

Elytra are the hardened forewings of Coleoptera, basically their armour.

Collection available on DressX

Caddisfly shoes

Colourway: Very Peri
The Caddisfly is not a Coleoptera, but it's known for the portable case created by its larvae. It creates this case using stones and shells that can be found in the river.
It isn't born with an armour like the Coleoptera, but it feels the need to have one.
I've been inspired by the Artist Hubert Duprat, who gave gold, turquoise and pearls to a group of caddisflies who used these materials to create wonderful cases.

Ischnocodia Annulus corset

For the Ischnocodia Annulus corset I’ve been inspired by the amazing shape and materials of this amazing species, also called the golden target beetle. It has a transparent shell cover on its golden body.

Trichaulax Sericea dress

Trichaulax Sericea dress plays with black leather and yellow fur just like this lovely creature.

Fact: in 2017 I realized a physical dress of this one (when studying at Istituto Cordella Fashion School). It was one of the dresses in my mini-collection “Coleoptera, everyone needs an armour”.

So, this dress is a key piece to link my last physical collection to my first digital collection.

EElytra cape

Elytra cape is inspired by elytra shapes and the material of Coleoptera wings.

EElytra base dress

Colourway: Rosenbergia

Elytra base dress is a dress that can be worn alone or under every other piece/armour of the collection.

The cuts and textures are inspired by Coleoptera (of course).
